Missing Mother

2013 | Short Film | Semi-Finalist

This short film is based on a true story about a troubled Chinese 17-year-old named Paul. He was orphaned as an infant and struggled his whole life with issues of abandonment and belonging. After years of unresolvable pain, in his teens, he resorted to a life of rebellion and violence as an expression of his inner turmoil. Finally, meeting Christ brought the deep love he longed for... But then one day, a relative told him that his mother had finally returned. Struggling with great apprehension, alas, curiosity pushed him to go back home to see her. Upon meeting her, years of bitterness swelled up inside him. Would Christ have the victory in his struggle, or would the overwhelming anger swallow him up?
