Elijah: The Making of a Masterpiece

2004 | Documentary | Semi-Finalist

“...Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17). Throughout the ages, God has been worshiped in many ways, especially with music. All generations have had their unique musical style and structure, but what still unites them all is the single goal of honoring the Lord. From classical to contemporary, the heart is the same. In this musically rich documentary, this point is seen as it follows the extensive production of Felix Mendelssohn’s choral masterpiece “Elijah,” as performed by the University Heights Baptist Church Choir. Utilizing both seasoned veterans of classical oratorio and amateur church volunteers, the performance is prepared in intimate detail. Through this massive effort, the inspiring message of Elijah’s life is brought to the public in resounding grandeur, showing not only what can be accomplished by God’s Church, but also what God can do with a single willing life.
