The Scattered Ones
2004 | Documentary | Semi-Finalist

They are hard to reach. Over one million people, scattered across a land twice the size of Texas. Among them, hidden deep inside the culture of Islam, are the vanguard of Gods kingdom among these people. These believers are the scattered ones of Mali. So begins this story in a foreboding place. Wind whips in from the north bringing sand and echoes from ancient civilizations. Fulani tribesmen, nomads, and masters at survival in one of the worlds harsher regions, practice their Muslim faith and cut out a living the best they can. Some have voluntarily chosen to add several degrees of difficulty to their lives by walking away from Allah and into the arms of God through His son, Jesus Christ. Its not easy. The culture in Mali lives and breathes in rhythm with the Koran and the Mullahs. Life is lived in the shadows of the mosques. To invite Jesus is to invite persecution. Missionaries have chosen to identify with this land, this culture, and this suffering. They offer hope and encouragement to those who, while embracing eternal life, also embrace temporal suffering.
